Step 1: lead-In
The weather has changed and it is easy to catch cold. Some students are ill with flu. If your classmates are ill in bed, what will you do? Maybe you’ll go and visit them. Ok! Today we’ll learn a dialogue between Jane and Ann. Jane is ill and her colleague Ann goes to see her. Let’s see what they are doing.
Step 2: presentation
1. listen to the dialogue once and try to get the answers to the following questions:
1) Is Jane hungry? (No, she isn’t.)
2) What is Jane’s work? (she is a secretary. )
3) What does Jane want to eat? (She wants to eat fruit.)
2. learn the new words and read the dialogue.
3. work in pairs, then explain some useful expressions and difficult points

Period 2 The Guinness Book of World Records (1)
Teaching aims:
1. to learn the new words and expression, make sure the Ss can read and write these words
2. to practise Ss fast reading skills and try to get the general idea of the text

1. master the new words and expressions
2. catch the main idea of the text

Step 1 Revision
1. ask Ss to read the words and dialogue first
2. have a dictation
how are you feeling? He gave me some tablets to reduce my temperature. Everyone at work sends you their regards. Everything falls apart when I’m ill.
Step 2 Lead-in
Who is the tallest student in our class? And whose hair is the longest in our class? Then do you know who is the fattest man in the world, who is the oldest man and what can fly the quickest. All of the questions about the world records can get their answers in “The Guinness Book of World Records”. Do you have heard of it? Today, we’ll learn something about it.
Step 3 Presentation

3. do the exercise B on page 75 and gather Ss’ answers to get know which part they can’t understand
4. explain the text in brief then check the answers and finish the Comprehension exercises

1) was/ were +动词现在分词
2) 用法: A) 表示在过去一个比较具体的时间正在发生的动作。 例:Mary was listening to light music 10 minutes ago.(10分钟前,玛丽正在听轻音乐。)
They were doing their homework from 8 to 10 last night. (昨晚8点到10点他们都在做作业)
B) 如果when, while这样的时间状语引导词所引导的主从句之一是一般过去时,则另一个句子常用过去进行时。 例:I was washing my hair when you knocked at the front door.(你敲前门时我正在洗头发。)
The thief went in your room while you were cooking in the kitchen. (贼进你房子时你正在厨房做饭)

2) play the tape for the Ss and ask them to finish the listening exercises
3) check the answers together and ask Ss to repeat sentences if necessary
4) listen to part C once again, and make sure the Ss can understand them correctly
