Importance & difficulty: 1. new words and expressions 2. oral practice 3. make a similar dialogue according to the given statement Teaching methods: listen to the tape recorder; pair work; practice Step 1: lead-In The weather has changed and it is easy to catch cold. Some students are ill with flu. If your classmates are ill in bed, what will you do? Maybe you’ll go and visit them. Ok! Today we’ll learn a dialogue between Jane and Ann. Jane is ill and her colleague Ann goes to see her. Let’s see what they are doing. Step 2: presentation 1. listen to the dialogue once and try to get the answers to the following questions: 1) Is Jane hungry? (No, she isn’t.) 2) What is Jane’s work? (she is a secretary. ) 3) What does Jane want to eat? (She wants to eat fruit.) 2. learn the new words and read the dialogue. 3. work in pairs, then explain some useful expressions and difficult points 1) how are you feeling/ are you feeling better now/ are you better? 2) send sb. One’s regards 3) that’s typical of him 4) fall apart 5) Is there anything I can do for you? Step 3: practice Ask Ss to make a similar dialogue then do pair work Step 4: brief summary Make sure they can read and write the new words correctly and know how to offer and ask for help Step 5: homework Copy the new words and useful expressions; read the dialogue and preview the text Period 2 The Guinness Book of World Records (1)
Teaching aims: 1. to learn the new words and expression, make sure the Ss can read and write these words 2. to practise Ss fast reading skills and try to get the general idea of the text Importance & difficulty: 1. master the new words and expressions 2. catch the main idea of the text Teaching methods: Listening to the tape; reading; doing exercise Step 1 Revision1. ask Ss to read the words and dialogue first 2. have a dictation how are you feeling? He gave me some tablets to reduce my temperature. Everyone at work sends you their regards. Everything falls apart when I’m ill. Step 2 Lead-inWho is the tallest student in our class? And whose hair is the longest in our class? Then do you know who is the fattest man in the world, who is the oldest man and what can fly the quickest. All of the questions about the world records can get their answers in “The Guinness Book of World Records”. Do you have heard of it? Today, we’ll learn something about it. Step 3 Presentation1. learn the new words 2. ask them to read the text by themselves with the help of new words and notes 3. do the exercise B on page 75 and gather Ss’ answers to get know which part they can’t understand 4. explain the text in brief then check the answers and finish the Comprehension exercises Step 4 SummaryPay attention to the pronunciation & spelling of the new words, make sure you can read the text fluently. (She was visiting Jane.) 3. Where was Jane lying? (She was lying on her bed.) 4. Where was Ann sitting? (She was sitting on Jane’s bed ,too.) Step 4 Summary: Pay attention to the Past Continuous Tense Step 5 Homework Finish the exercises Ⅲ on page 46 in workbook Period 5 Listening comprehension Teaching aims: 1. to review the Past Continuous Tense 2. to train Ss’ listening skills & make sure they can understand the English on the tape. 3. to revise the language point of the unit Importance & Difficulty: 1. review the Past Continuous Tense 2. listening comprehension and to improve Ss’ listening skill Teaching methods: Listening practice Step 1 Revision Check the answers to the homework and do some necessary explanation Step 2 Listening comprehension 1. listen to the phonetic exercise on textbook and review the phonetics, making sure they know how to read them. 2. do the listening exercises in the workbook 1) give the Ss several minutes to go through the listening material in order to get a good preparation. 2) play the tape for the Ss and ask them to finish the listening exercises 3) check the answers together and ask Ss to repeat sentences if necessary 4) listen to part C once again, and make sure the Ss can understand them correctly Step 3 Explanation of the exercises in workbook Finish the exercise A on page 45 with the whole class Explain some difficult items appeared in exercise B on page 45 Step 4 Summary: Try to listen to some extra materials so as to improve the listening skill Step 5 Homework: Finish all the exercises left in the workbook and review the unit. |
