A
Time spent in a bookshop can be most enjoyable, whether you are a book-lover or you are merely there to buy a book as a present. You may even have entered the shop just to keep yourself from being caught in a sudden rain. Whatever the reason, you can soon totally forget where you are.
You have to be careful not to be attracted by the variety of books in a bookshop. It is very easy to enter the shop looking for a book on ancient coins and to come out carrying a copy of the latest best-selling novel. This sort of thing can be very dangerous. You may spend a lot of money and you can waste a great deal of time walking from section to section looking at the books.
You soon become deeply interested in some book or other, and usually it is only much later that you realize you have spent far too much time there and must hurry away to deal with some forgotten things- without buying a book, of course.
The opportunity to escape the realities of everyday life is, I think, the main attraction of a bookshop. There are not many places where it is possible to do this. You can go round such places to your heart’s satisfaction.
56. According to the author, people go to a bookshop __________.
A. just to buy books B. just to buy presents

A. is a busy man B. likes going to a bookshop

B
Now and again I have had bad dreams, but I have not had enough of them to make me lose my delight in dreams. To begin with, I like the idea of dreaming, of going to bed and lying still, and then, surprisingly enough, finding myself in another kind of existence.
As a child I could never understand why grown-ups took dreaming so calmly when they liked so much to talk about any holiday. I cannot understand people who say they never dream and appear to have no interest in the subject. It is much more surprising than if they said they never went out for a walk. Most grown-up people do not seem to accept dreaming as part of their lives. They appear to see it as a strange little habit, like sneezing(打喷嚏). I have never understood this.
My dream life does not seem as important as my waking life, probably because there is far less of it. But to me it is important, as if there were at least two more continents added to the world. Then again, the dream life, though funny and confusing(令人困惑的) and not good enough in many ways, has its own advantages, The dead are there, smiling and talking. The past is there, sometimes all broken but occasionally as fresh as green grass. And perhaps, the future is there too, waving at us.
61.The underlined phrase another kind of existence( in Paragraph 1) most probably means_______.
A. a world of dream B. a world of the future

A. the future will become realized soon
B. dead people all know how to smile and talk
C. you can meet the dead, the past and the future there

C
We parents often take material things for love. “I give him everything,” a disappointed mother complains, “New shoes, video-games, his own TV. You’d think he’d at least show me respect!”
Of course, love and parents are related. Most parents work hard to earn money. They want their children to have more than they did and have better lives. The problem is, most children don’t connect the things parents buy with the labor that pays for them. Children have more, but our culture- and television in particular- teaches them that more is never enough. Having more does not mean that a child feels loved.
From a parent’s point of view, children are not thankful. But this has to do with their natural growth. Young children see their parents as all-powerful. If parents fail to provide what they want, it must be a matter of choice. It’s normal for children, even school-age ones, not to be able to take another person’s point of view. For example, they may dislike their parent for working long hours. And not realize that the parent would also rather have more time at home.
In addition to giving presents, we have to find other ways to express love and create memories. Reading or telling stories together. Making music and playing games are all ways for families to spend time without spending money. Traditions like reading favorite poems and even snowball fights all serve the same purpose. Most importantly, as parents, we have to learn to hold back some energy from our tiring jobs. When we’re present for our children we ourselves become the presents we want to give.

We use emotional (令人动情的) language to express our own attitudes and feelings. We also use it to persuade other people to believe what we believe or to do what we want them to do, and, of course, other people say emotional language to us to get us to believe or to do what they want to.
We get a lot of advice, day in and day out, at home and in school, on the radio and on television. It comes from parents and teachers, from film stars and politicians, but, most of all, of course, from advertisers. Most of the advice is expressed in emotional language and is intended to excite our feelings rather than to make use of our thinking.
We should look at the intentions behind all this advice. Why do they want to persuade us? What do they want us to do? We will not be thinking very clearly unless we try to see through the covering of words and realize something of the speaker’s purpose.
A call to emotion is in itself neither good nor bad. Our emotions are here and they are part of our personality (性格,个性). On some occasions, people try to excite our emotions on the highest levels and from the best of intentions. A case in point is Churchill’s wartime speeches: whatever people thought of Churchill as a politician, they listened to him and were united behind him when he spoke as a national leader in those dark days.
71.The major uses of emotional language discussed in the passage are to ____.
